Wanting to stay in bed all day or stay up all night may also be signs of a problem.Loss of interest in usual activities â€" If your teen quits her favorite activities, or shows a lack of interest in spending time with friends, she may be experiencing a problem.Major changes in academic performance â€" Mental health issues often lead to dramatic changes in motivation to do school work. If your teen has lost interest in doing her homework, or she suddenly falls behind in school, it could be a sign of a problem.Weight or appetite changes â€" Skipping meals, hoarding food, and rapid changes in weight could be a sign of an eating disorder. Depression is often characterized by weight changes as well.Extreme moodiness â€" Excessive anger, unexpected weeping, and high levels of irritability can be a sign of a mental illness.Increased isolation â€" A strong desire to be alone or excessi ve secrecy may be a sign of a problem. Stay Calm If You See Warning Signs Mental health issues are usually very treatable. And a problem doesn’t mean your teen is ‘crazy.’ Instead, it means your teen needs medical attention. Similar to the way some teens develop physical health problems, like asthma or acne, others develop mental health problems, like obsessive-compulsive disorder or bipolar disorder. Stay calm, but take action. Rather than spend months worrying about a potential problem, commit to finding out if your teen could benefit from treatment. Talk to Your Teen About Your Concerns Bringing up concerns about your teen’s mental health may feel uncomfortable at first. But, it’s important to talk to your teen about the red flags you’re seeing. Point out your observations and invite your teen’s input. Be careful not to infer your teen is ‘crazy’ or that it’s his fault. Here are some examples of things you might say: “I see you are spending more time in your room by yourself and you aren’t going out with your friends. I’m concerned about that.”“I’ve noticed you haven’t been doing much homework lately. I’m wondering if you just haven’t been in the mood to deal with school.”“You are sleeping a lot more than usual. I wonder if there might be something bothering you or if you’re not feeling like your usual self.” Don’t be surprised if your teen insists nothing is wrong or he becomes irritated by your suggestion. Many teens are embarrassed, ashamed, afraid, or confused by the symptoms they’re experiencing. It’s possible your teen will feel relieved when you bring up the subject as well. Sometimes, teens know they are struggling, but aren’t sure how to tell anyone what they’re experiencing. Help Your Teen Identify Trusted People to Talk To It is important for teens to have healthy adults they can talk to about issues going on in their lifeâ€"and quite often theyre more willing to talk to someone other than their parents. So, make sure your teen has other people in their life can talk to. Help them identify at least three trusted adults they might be able to talk to about any problems, concerns, or issues theyre having. Ask, “If you had a problem and you couldn’t talk to me about it, who could you talk to?” While many teens are happy to talk to their friends, a teen’s peers may lack the wisdom to deal with serious problems. So, it’s best if your teen has older people they can count on as well. Who Can Your Teen Turn To? Family friends, relatives, coaches, teachers, guidance counselors, and friend’s parents might be among the people they can talk to. Reassure them that it’s OK to bring up problems with those people whom you agree are trustworthy. It can also be a good time to ask, “Do you ever think it might be a good idea to have a professional to talk to?” Sometimes teens aren’t comfortable asking to see a therapist, but some of them may welcome the idea if you suggest it first. Get Your Teen Evaluated If your teen’s mental illness is nearing a crisis level, go to your local emergency room. Threats of suicide, serious self-injury, or hallucinations are just a few reasons to get your teen evaluated immediately. For mental health concerns that aren’t an immediate crisis, schedule a doctor’s appointment for your teen. Talk to your teen about the appointment the same way you’d discuss an appointment for an earache or a regular check-up. Say, “I’ve scheduled a doctor’s appointment for you on Thursday. I know you aren’t concerned about how tired you’ve been lately, but I want to get you checked out by the doctor just to make sure.” Explain your concerns to the doctor and give your teen an opportunity to speak with the doctor alone. Your teen may talk more openly when you’re not present. The evaluation may put your mind at ease and assure your teen is healthy. Or, the doctor may recommend you seek additional treatment from a mental health professional, like an adolescent therapist. Determine Your Treatment Options If a doctor recommends further assessment, your teen may be referred to a mental health professional. A mental health professional, such as a psychologist or licensed clinical social worker, may interview you and your teen to gather more information. Some mental health professionals provide written questionnaires or other screening tools. A trained mental health professional will likely gather information from your teen’s doctor as well. A mental health professional can provide you with an appropriate diagnosis (if applicable) and will present you with treatment options, such as talk therapy or medication. Seek Support for Yourself A teen’s mental health affects the entire family, so it’s important to seek support for yourself if youre teen has a mental illness. Talking to other parents can be key to staying mentally strong. Some parents find comfort in gaining emotional support  from parents who understand, and others find it helpful to learn about community resources and educational options. Look for a local support group or talk to your teen’s doctor to learn about programs in your community. You might also find it helpful to research online forums or groups that could offer you help. You might also consider meeting with a therapist on your own. A mental health professional may be able to ensure you’re managing your stress well so you can be best equipped to help your child.

A Postmodern Cultural Perspective in Lolita and A...

A Postmodern Cultural Perspective in Lolita and A Streetcar Named Desire Postmodernism has emerged as a reaction to modernism thoughts and well-established modernist systems. (Wikipedia, 2005) Specific to Nabokovs Lolita and Williams Streetcar Named Desire is the idea that both of the novels are written under the view of postmodernism as a cultural movement and that they are broadly defined as the condition of Western society especially after World War II (period in which the novel were written; 1947 for Streetcar and 1955 for Lolita).†¦show more content†¦Blanche Dubois embodies Old Southern America values, defined by the Old South culture. The term originally came into use after the American Civil War. (Wikipedia, 2005) Many southern whites used it with nostalgia to represent the memories of a time of prosperity, social order, gracious living and of white supremacy It is also a reference to the past times of slavery and the plantation economy. Stanley Kowalski, embodies a rising member of the industrial immigrant class but also the devil of the cold war period which opposed Western and Eastern countries located on the other side of the Iron Curtain, such as Poland (which is Stanleys native land). Hes the personification of modern practicality, crudeness and brutality. In Lolita, Humbert symbolizes the Old and erudite Europe, the bespectated , round-backed Herr Humbert coming with his Central-European trunks to gather dust in his corner behind a heap of old books. (Lolita, p56) He is born in Paris with a salad of racial genes: a Swiss citizen, of mixed French and Austrian descent, with a dash of the Danube in his veins (Lolita, p.9), who immigrates in New York (as a reference to the American dream). Compare Two Theories of First/Second Language Acquisition Free Essays

A3 Compare two theories of first/second language acquisition. The process by which humans acquire the capacity to distinguish properly as well as produce and use words to understand and communicate with others is known as first language acquisition. It focuses mainly on how infants pick up their native language, including syntax and some extensive vocabulary items, having so little input. We will write a custom essay sample on Compare Two Theories of First/Second Language Acquisition or any similar topic only for you Order Now We can distinguish many theoretical approaches towards the first language learning process. Behaviourists, for instance, whose main motto is ‘Say what I say’ claim that learning of the language is the result of habit formation, imitation practice and feedback on success. Children naturally imitate what they hear in their environment, then if they receive positive reinforcement, they are able to form ‘habits’ of proper language use. On the other hand, a linguist Noam Chomsky holds that language development may be compared to the most basic biological functions such as an ability to walk as â€Å"every child will learn to walk as long as adequate nourishment and reasonable freedom of movement are provided† (Lightbown and Spada 1999:15). Both theories emphasize the importance of the environment which plays a crucial role when stimulating child’s language development. Hence, in order to pick up the language in a proper way the child must be exposed to the language given. However, contradictory to the behaviourist theory, Chomsky claims that the language is, to some degree, confusing and the provided information is not sufficient for a child to learn the language only by imitating particular words and phrases. That is to say, the environment fails to provide all necessary information which the child needs. To sum up, the greatest difference between behaviourism and innatism is the opinion about child’s mind. Behaviourists claim that child should be, in some way, programmed by the environment, meaning child’s mind is a blank slate that has to be filled. However, Chomsky is of the opinion that every child comes to this world with a special ability to discover all language rules by itself. Bibliography: Lightbown, P. and Spada, N. 1999. The Justice Of Death Essay Research Paper free essay sample

The Justice Of Death Essay, Research Paper The definition of justness is frequently thought of as an sentiment. This theory is sometimes true, but can do a immense quandary. How can we populate by the regulations when they are non definite? Isn # 8217 ; t that what justness is? Populating by the regulations. Maybe justness is an absolute. Possibly our sentiment of justness is merely portion of the whole thing. Everyone is merely seeing a portion of the large image. It may look that at that place may non be a definite justness, but it is merely something that exists. An illustration of this theory is the thought of a circle. One can neer really pull a complete circle perfect. This is scientifically impossible. So how does one know that there is a circle? One has an thought of what it is, and they draw their ain version of the absolute definition of that circle. We will write a custom essay sample on The Justice Of Death Essay Research Paper or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This is the same if you look at a Equus caballus. All Equus caballuss are different, so how can you perfectly depict a Equus caballus. Is a Equus caballus without legs and a tail still a Equus caballus? It must be. So how do you cognize that it is a Equus caballus? One would cognize that it was a Equus caballus because they know the thought of a Equus caballus. So justness can be thought of the same manner, as an absolute. No 1 can of all time make the absolute of justness, but one can acquire every bit near as they can. The decease punishment frequently falls into the class of justness. While I am non stipulating that the decease punishment is right of incorrect, I am saying that it must be merely a part of the true definition of justness. To utilize the decease punishment one must believe that the penalty is equal to the offense, and hence merely. The decease punishment is frequently enforced by Texas, but the grade of badness of a offense is heightened in comparing to the remaind er of the state. In peculiar, the Texas Seven relates to this issue of justness. They are confronting the decease punishment, for legion brushs with the jurisprudence. While some would reason that there actions are straight being punished by the decease punishment, others will reason that a individual does non hold the right to take another # 8217 ; s life. This puts the universe in quite a quandary. There is besides the fact that the Texas penal system is perverting the captives within its walls. The corruptness contradicts the thought of prison. Prison # 8217 ; s basic responsibility is to alter the hard-boiled felon so he may be able to be placed back in society at some point. How can you give the decease punishment to a group of felons like the Texas Seven when the penal system added to his corruptness? Texas must believe that one can no longer be placed back into society. Why else would you play Gods and kill another human being. To kill person else you must believe that they are no longer apart of your race. A group of friends is a perfect illustration of this theory . In a group of friends you are tightly knit. Nothing normally can interrupt you apart. You can easy show yourself toward them. What would hold to go on for you to no longer talk to a friend that was within that group? One would hold to believe that he no longer belonged in that group. That he can no longer be within that group or society, and you can non show yourself freely. As you can see the decease punishment is parallel to this illustration. Texas is sublimely stating that a individual can no longer be safely in an environment of civilised human existences. Therefore that individual is no longer recognized as a human being. Can one genuinely province that you are no longer a human being? Furthermore can anybody state that another is no longer a portion of the human race? Well, lets look at society as a whole. Society is made up of civilised human existences that can believe. â€Å"I think therefore I am.† Well if society is a group of civilised worlds that think, one mus t state that a individual that does non be in society is non civilized, and hence can non believe. As of now the Texas Seven are contending extradition charges back to Texas. The barbarous tribunal conflict is for the ground that Texas is seeking the decease punishment while Colorado is non. As one can clearly see, the decease punishment is given out by Texas with easiness. Colorado is merely seeking life for the same felons that Texas is seeking the decease punishment. For the decease punishment the offenses of the members must be of a high badness. The lone thing is that Colorado does non see the same. For the decease punishment to work the offense must be the penalty. The lone job is diverse people interpret the badness of the offense different. Consequently, there are different grades of the same offense around the state. So for Texas to give the decease punishment out comfortably they must believe that the offense is worse in Texas compared to the remainder of the state. Can a part be that different that the offense is non of the same ferociousness? For this to be true, we mu st foremost believe they are of higher criterions than the remainder. So hence, they believe everyone should endeavor to be like them. So, as you can see the chief points are those related to justness. For the decease punishment to work one must believe that the individual no longer belongs in society. He must in his eyes be no longer a human. This is non the instance everyplace in the state though. Others have different thoughts and positions about the decease punishment. It is difficult to banish a individual individual from the race that they were born in. Since that fundamentally is what the decease punishment is. As you can see, Colorado must hold different positions on the decease punishment than Texas sing their determinations on judgement.

Business Life Cycle Essays

Business Life Cycle Essays Business Life Cycle Essay Business Life Cycle Essay The Business life cycle can be split into 4 main stages. These are- Establishment, Growth, Maturity and Post-maturity. Post-maturity can be split into a further 3 â€Å"options†. These are- Establishment is when the business is created. In the phase, it is vital to create a strong foundation and secure income. You must make sure the expenses do not outweigh your income. You find it difficult to getting finance, due to low profit and sale levels from poor customer awareness. This can be very problematic, as there are often high start-up costs for new businesses. During establishment, you must decide what structure to follow (sole trader, partnership ) Employ workers, find a facility to mass produce your product, factoring in production costs vs. Final profit, Work out the market value for your product, too high and you will lose out to your competitors, too low and you will not be able to cover the costs of production and generally functioning as a business. All this and you must work out how to let the public know about your product (advertising) and setting up the appropriate bank accounts, dealing with employee and business taxes and arranging insurance for everything. Growth is when long term plans for the business must be made. Sales increase, you have a solid customer base and you have larger production levels. These pose a problem, as more finance, employees and equipment may be required to meet up with supply-demand. During this time, the decision may be made to change business structure to allow for smoother running, or easier ways of getting money. This increase of just about everything creates a lot of management stress, and occasionally outside parties must be hired to deal with it. Maturity is when the company is established on the market and needs to innovate continuously to stay competitive, and your long-term plans are met. There is more competition, profits and sales level off and if you have saturated your market, the business may be required to alter or create a new, better product to keep up with the market. How the business should be operated must be re-thought to ensure your business survives. This could sometimes mean dramatic changes, such as a complete re-structure of the business, or something small such as the business becoming a more formally organised structure. Post maturity is where a business goes after maturity. There are 3 different ways to go. These are Renewal, Steady state and Decline. The decline ultimately ends in the business closing down. It becomes harder o compete with other products, yours may have become obsolete, and your employees may leave to look for better opportunities. A business in a steady state is in exactly that- a steady state. It is neither expanding nor declining. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but eventually it will lead to either a decline or renewal, as competitors will try to buy you out or take your customer base. To get into renewal, you must tap into new markets and meet new requirements in your customers’ life. This takes enormo us effort from both the owners and employees. This sometimes requires leaving behind old products, creating new ones, or re-designing your brand, coming at it at a different angle. You know you have succeeded when profit levels reach all time highs, and although cash flow may decline as costs for research into new markets begins, in the long term you end up with more capital. Westfarmers. (bussiness example) Westfarmers was founded by farmers and focused on the distribution of services and farming equipment to the rural community of Western Australia. It is currently in a state of post-maturity renewal. In the 1940s the company did things like being wheat and general merchants; country distribution for Commonwealth Oil Refineries Ltd; wool, live stock, skin and produce auctioneers; grain fruit exporters; insurance underwriters; acquiring agents for the wheat pool of W. A. Westfarmers had set-ups in different locations in the Perth central business district. In the 1940s there headquarters was at 563-571 Wellington Street. They also had headquarters at Newman Street in Fremantle. In 1985 Westfarmers restructured itself from a co-operative to a public company and was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. Wesfarmers is now in a constant state of renewal, from buying out stores such as K-mart, Coles, Officeworks, Bunning’s warehouse, Target and Houseworks. If it keeps going on buying out more and more companies they will become extremely profitable, and very hard to contend with. What If Your Grad School Recommendation Is Missing

What If Your Grad School Recommendation Is Missing Recommendation letters are a vital part of your application to graduate school. All applications require multiple letters of recommendation from professionals, typically faculty members, who evaluate your capacity for graduate-level work. Selecting faculty to approach and soliciting recommendation letters is challenging. Applicants usually breathe a sigh of relief once several faculty  members have agreed to write on their behalf. Asking Is Not Enough Once you have obtained your letters, do not rest on your laurels. Stay aware of the status of your application, particularly whether each program has received your recommendation letters. Your application will not be read- not one word will pass the admission committees eyes- until it is complete. Your application is not complete until all recommendation letters are received. Most graduate programs notify students of the status of their applications. Some send emails to students with incomplete applications. Many have online tracking systems that permit students to log in and determine their status. Take advantage of opportunities to check up on your application. Recommendation letters do not always arrive on time- or at all. Now What? With admissions deadlines rapidly approaching, its up to you to ensure that your application is complete. If a recommendation letter is missing, you must approach the faculty member and give a gentle nudge. Many students find requesting recommendation letters difficult. Following up on late letters often is petrifying. Dont be afraid. Its a stereotype, but often true: Many faculty  members are tardy. They are late to class, late returning student work, and late in sending recommendation letters. Professors may explain that graduate programs expect faculty letters to be late. That may be true (or not)- its your job to ensure that your letters arrive on time. You cant control the faculty members behavior, but you can offer gentle reminders. Email the faculty member and explain that the graduate program contacted you because your application is incomplete as they have not received all of your recommendation letters. Most faculty will immediately apologize, perhaps say that they forgot, and promptly send it. Others may not check their email or reply to your message. If the professor does not answer email, your next step is to call. In many cases, you will have to leave a voicemail. Identify yourself- clearly, state your name. Explain that you are following up to request a recommendation letter be present because the graduate program has not received it. Leave your phone number by speaking slowly and clearly. Thank the professor, then leave your phone number and name again (speak slowly and clearly). When you speak to the professor, be factual (e.g., the admissions coordinator says the letter has not been received) and be courteous. Do not accuse the faculty member of being late or of trying to undermine your application. The fact is that he or she probably simply forgot to Remember that you want your professor to be a good move and think highly of you as he or she writes your letter, so be polite and deferential. Follow Up After you have reminded faculty your job is not done. Follow up with the graduate programs. Its up to you to ensure that your application is complete. Some faculty might tell you that they will send the letter soon, but they again may fall victim to tardiness. Check up. You might find a week or two later that the letter still has not arrived. Again remind the professor. This time email and call. It isnt fair, but the reality is that some faculty, though they mean well, do not send recommendation letters on time. Be aware of this and do your best to ensure that your graduate application is complete and on time.

In the observation method, participants may not be sought to provide an informed consent since the observations may be done without their knowledge. In addition, observation methods invade individual privacy leading to breach of the ethical principle requiring respect for individual privacy. Unobtrusive measures sometimes require researchers to forego the informed consent of the participants in order to promote nonreactivity in the study (Cooper & Schindler, 2010). This raises ethical issues involving invasion of participants’ privacy and informed consent. The problem of declining productivity in a manufacturing firm can be resolved through observational data on workplace reporting patterns, staff’s attitude towards work and general commitment in execution of their role. Observation data can also be used to solve problems of motivation at workplace and reactions towards change initiatives. Communication entails a two way processed as opposed to observation which only follows a one way process. Collection of data through the observation method involves collection responses without making any exchanges with the participants (Cooper & Schindler, 2010). Observations serve to strengthen the information gathered through communication or exchange of information. Nonverbal analysis involves analysis of phenomena such as body movements and motor expression while linguistic analysis entails examination of interaction processes between individuals to determine information exchanged and language used. Extra-linguistic analysis on the other hand goes beyond language analysis to cover other factors in communication such as rhythm, pronunciation and levels of vocabulary used. Leadership Theory Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Leadership Theory - Essay Example According to the literature on leadership, it is necessary for every person to work out his/her personal strategy of leadership skills development and try to live and act in compliance with them. There are a lot of theories created in order to explain the peculiarities of each leadership style. If a person is acquainted with such styles, he or she can easily find the most appropriate for him/her. The knowledge of styles can help achieve the desired goals. The given paper will provide the overview of leadership and describe the theories as well as their pluses and minuses. Also the situations, where a person can use that or this theory in the best way will be described. â€Å"Leadership is diving for a loose ball, getting the crowd involved, getting other players involved. It's being able to take it as well as dish it out. That's the only way you're going to get respect from the players (Bird cited in Groves, 2006). Despite the fact that the qualification of manager is very popular i n the modern world, the demand for good managers is still growing. â€Å"Management is efficiency in climbing the ladder of success; leadership determines whether the ladder is leaning against the right wall† (Covey cited in Groves 2006). The fast development of business demands real professionals in the field of management. The organizations with the structure that prescribes self-management are very typical nowadays. Moreover, with the fast development of computers and informational technologies any kind of information becomes accessible for people within a shorter period of time. Nevertheless, no one can underestimate the importance of good managers, people that can not only organize the work, but organize it in stressful situations, which are so common for the modern business world. The question is how to become a good manager. Many scientists claim that success in any major can be reached not due to the talent, but due to the hard work. In order to become a good manager, one has to be acquainted with the main features that a future leader has to acquire. A good manager should know about his/her capabilities. A leader should always have many ideas: â€Å"If you have ideas, you have the main asset you need, and there isn't any limit to what you can do with your business and your life. Ideas are any man's greatest asset† (Firestone cited in Rok 2009). It is necessary to improve the leadership skills and be self-assured. It is important to be sociable, but at the same time it is essential to remember that the sociability should stay somewhere between the extremes. If you cannot find common language with people or they irritate you, you can’t be a leader. It is also important to understand that your success strongly depends on the faith of your subordinates. In the modern business world the main task of a good manager is not just to control others, but rather to inform the team about the plans and goals and supervise the implementation pro cess. A good manager should possess good leadership skills and know how to apply them. The team should feel the presence of their manager even if the manager is absent. It is not easy to be a leader. According to Bushnell â€Å"Everyone who's ever taken a shower has an idea. It's the person who gets out of the shower, dries off and does something about it who makes a difference† (Bushnell cite din Graetz, 2000) The leader should be neither too

Reflective Essay on Personal Strengths

Reflective Essay on Personal Strengths Personal Strengths 2 Introduction StrengthsQuest is a personality assessment tool used by career-oriented companies and schools to help determine what careers a given person might be suitable for. This is a test approximately 150 questions long, that measures ones top five personality strengths, so that those top five may be recognized and utilized in a proficient manner within that persons career. This maximizes ones workable efficiency. This report will analyze my top five personal strengths and make a correlation between them and my future career endeavors. Personal Strengths Themes My top five personal strengths are Belief, Responsibility, Competition, Developer, and Relator. In order to further discuss these strengths, one must have a basic understanding of what goes into each strength theme. Belief   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  If you possess a strong Belief theme, you have certain core values that are enduring. These values vary from one person to another, but ordinarily your Belief theme causes you to be family-oriented, altruistic, even spiritual, and to value responsibility and high ethics-both in yourself and others. These core values affect your behavior in many ways. They give your life meaning and satisfaction; in your view, success is more than money and prestige. They provide you with direction, guiding you through the temptations and distractions of life toward a consistent set of priorities. This consistency is the foundation for all your relationships. Your friends call you dependable. â€Å"I know where you stand,† they say. Your Belief makes you easy to trust. It also demands that you find work that meshes with your values. Your work must be meaningful; it must matter to you. And guided by your Belief theme it will matter only if it gives you a chance to live out yo ur values (StrengthsQuest 2010). Personal Strengths 3 Responsibility   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Your Responsibility theme forces you to take psychological ownership for anything you commit to, and whether large or small, you feel emotionally bound to follow it through to completion. Your good name depends on it. If for some reason you cannot deliver, you automatically start to look for ways to make it up to the other person. Apologies are not enough. Excuses and rationalizations are totally unacceptable. You will not quite be able to live with yourself until you have made restitution. This conscientiousness, this near obsession for doing things right, and your impeccable ethics, combine to create your reputation: utterly dependable. When assigning new responsibilities, people will look to you first because they know it will get done. When people come to you for help-and they soon will-you must be selective. Your willingness to volunteer may sometimes lead you to take on more than you should (StrengthsQuest 2010). Competition   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Competition is rooted in comparison. When you look at the world, you are instinctively aware of other peoples performance. Their performance is the ultimate yardstick. No matter how hard you tried, no matter how worthy your intentions, if you reached your goal but did not outperform your peers, the achievement feels hollow. Like all competitors, you need other people. You need to compare. If you can compare, you can compete, and if you can compete, you can win. And when you win, there is no feeling quite like it. You like measurement because it facilitates comparisons. You like other competitors because they invigorate you. You like contests because they must produce a winner. You particularly like contests where you know you have the inside track to be the winner. Although you are gracious to your fellow competitors and even stoic in defeat, you dont compete for the fun of competing. You compete to win. Over time you will come to avoid contests where winning seem s unlikely (StrengthsQuest 2010). Developer   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  You see the potential in others. Very often, in fact, potential is all you see. In your view no individual is fully formed. On the contrary, each individual is a work in progress, alive with possibilities. And you are drawn toward people for this very reason. When you interact with others, your goal is to help them experience success. You look for ways to challenge them. You devise interesting experiences that can stretch them and help them grow. And all the while you are on the lookout for the signs of growth-a new behavior learned or modified, a slight improvement in a skill, a glimpse of excellence or of â€Å"flow† where previously there were only halting steps. For you these small increments- invisible to some-are clear signs of potential being realized. These signs of growth in others are your fuel. They bring you strength and satisfaction. Over time many will seek Personal Strengths 4 you out for help and encouragement because on some level they know that your helpfulness is both genuine and fulfilling to you (StrengthsQuest 2010). Relator   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Relator describes your attitude toward your relationships. In simple terms, the Relator theme pulls you toward people you already know. You do not necessarily shy away from meeting new people-in fact, you may have other themes that cause you to enjoy the thrill of turning strangers into friends-but you do derive a great deal of pleasure and strength from being around your close friends. You are comfortable with intimacy. Once the initial connection has been made, you deliberately encourage a deepening of the relationship. You want to understand their feelings, their goals, their fears, and their dreams; and you want them to understand yours. You know that this kind of closeness implies a certain amount of risk-you might be taken advantage of-but you are willing to accept that risk. For you a relationship has value only if it is genuine. And the only way to know that is to entrust yourself to the other person. The more you share with each other, the more you risk t ogether. The more you risk together, the more each of you proves your caring is genuine. These are your steps toward real friendship, and you take them willingly (StrengthsQuest 2010). Career Correlations   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Physical fitness has always been my passion. I am currently working on getting a Bachelors degree in exercise science. With that being said, I have two routes that I would like to go. I would either like to be an athletic coach of some kind, or a personal trainer. With the strength themes I exhibited, these career fields are somewhat perfect for me.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  With the strength theme, Belief, I want nothing more than to make a difference in peoples lives, through the avenue of physical fitness. By doing this, I can be happy with myself even if I dont make a ton of money. I believe that if you love what you do, the money will fall in to place (Ted Leonsis 2010). I am a big advocate of having a purpose in everything you do, whether large or small. My Belief, is that, I can have a positive influence on someones life, and Personal Strengths 5   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  teach them values and help them achieve personal goals they have set for themselves, through sports or working out.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Responsibility is my next theme, which gives me accountability to my future â€Å"clients† and â€Å"players.† I am not one to give up in anything when something doesnt go my way. If I commit to something, theres no turning back from it (Rotegà ¥rd,A.,Moore,S.,Fagermoen,M.,Ruland,C. 2010). If I cannot accomplish something or make a mistake, I dont try to make excuses, but rather, learn from it and move on. It is that sense of Responsibilty.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Competition is a great strength theme for me, especially given the option of coaching. Competition is a way that I can measure my work ethic and achievement motivation. I have a need to compare and contrast myself with others around me (Vetter,R.,Symonds,M. 2010). Not in the sense that I am better than they are, but constantly trying to better myself, by learning from those who I feel are better competitors. Competition can be a great asset when used right.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Developer is another great strength, because it can be applied, so easy, to both personal training and coaching as well. I think it is necessary for both too. I am good at seeing the â€Å"big picture† in people. I can see how someone may be good at something, but then know how to tweak their skills enough to help make them great at it. Through precision, non-complacency, and attention to details, I can help bring out the potential in others (Mark Helfand 2005). This is a huge driving force for me.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Finally, Relator is the last of my top five strength themes. Relator allows me to connect with those I work with. Empathy is so very important to both athletics and personal training. Personal Strengths 6 When you can see through someone elses eyes, you can share a bond with them that allows you to use a leadership role, by giving advice and making corrections without being questioned. It builds trust between both parties and allows for more efficient goal achievement.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  These top five strength themes that I exhibit, I believe, are not only perfect for coaching or personal training, but are, absolutely necessary in being successful as well. Gothic Satire Essay

The subject of homework is cause for much debate between teachers, students, and parents. However, it is obvious that homework is not necessary every day. Homework should not be assigned to students on a daily basis because of health issues, the level of difficulty and the problem with time management. So I suggest the teacher can assign the homework twice a week, it is a way more easy to let students done their work. To begin, daily homework is unnecessary because of health issues. Students who have too much homework can develop poor sleep habits; many students pull â€Å"all-nighters† in an attempt to keep up. Another health issue is the lack of fresh air. Students show simple exposure to sunlight can provide bodies with neccessay vitamins, but there is no sunlight at your desk in your bedroom! Lastly, stress levels go through the roof when faced with too much work; in countries like China, overworked students have a high suicide rate. Evidently, too much homework can seriously damage your health. In addition, daily homework presents an unrealistic level of difficulty. If all teachers support daily homework, a student will have a heavy workload, with homework from four classes! Some homework is simply too difficult to be completed alone; a parent is not a teacher and should not be expected to know all the answers. Finally, struggling students who face failure at school and at home might choose to give up on school completely. A student who did not understand all day will fell even more discouraged when left alone to complete the work. Obviously, daily homework is simply too difficult. Finally, daily homework causes major problems when it comes to time. Many students need to work to supplement their family income or for posr=secondary education; there is no time for a student to manage a part-time job and homework. Valuable leisure time with family and friends also suffers when daily homework is assigned. Students need connections with the people who care about them in order to be emotionally and mentally healthy. With no time to simply unwind with those we love, we cannot form healthy relationships. Last but not least, students who have homework every day cannot join extracurricular activities such as sports and clubs. The educational system constantly stresses that a successful student is an active part of the school community, but a student with no free time has no time to join and make new friends. Thus, daily homework seriously compromises a student’s free time. In conclusion, due to problems such as good health, increased level of difficulty and lack of time, daily homework should not be assigned; it is, quite simply, unrealistic. Teachers should keep in mind that they are developing future people, and people require a healthy mind, body and spirit.

Grace, Free Will, and Human Nature Three Significant...

When the Renaissance dawned over Europe’s Dark Ages, half a millennium of intellectual thought, long unchallenged, found new opponents on all sides. Aided by the printing press, fresh ideas in science, art, and religion spread freely across the Western World, falling under the scrutiny of an ever-expanding population of the literate. With this widespread intellectual excitement came greater individualism, more celebration of human achievement, and stronger focus on the secular world—a major shift from the heaven-focused outlook of the Middle Ages, in which people felt they were little more than the feeble playthings of fate. But are human beings really able to change their destinies through their choices? Are they capable of good? Three†¦show more content†¦He then explains that with the proper preparation, fate can be held at bay, and he provides an example of a river that often floods. Although nothing can be done when the flood has already come, the calamity can be prevented altogether if dikes and dams are built up in strategic places beforehand (Machiavelli 85). In this chapter, he also mentions that, in general, men are successful when their methods are suited to the circumstances. Therefore, if a man can adapt to new situations by becoming flexible enough to know when his usual methods will not work, he will have more power to navigate changing affairs (Machiavelli 85-86). The attitude presented in The Prince brings up an interesting paradox: although Machiavelli champions the free will and cunning of the elite prince, he seems to hold the autonomy of the masses in low esteem, assuming throughout his book that mankind in general is selfish, simple, and unreliable—the opposite of the cool, calculating prince that Machiavelli idealizes. In fact, almost all his advice to the aspiring leader seems to be based on a completely pessimistic view of human nature, perhaps because Machiavelli thinks it safest to assume the worst.
